Having rooms in your home and not being
able to decorate them can be a problem. After all, bare rooms are not really
pretty to look out. Imagine just staring at a wall with nothing on it except
for paint. Prison cells are more decorated than this.
However, decorating need not be a chore.
You can do it with minimum of expense and with fewer hassles than you think. If
you’re pretty handy with basic tools you can do a lot to brighten up your home.
Take that blank space above your sofa.
Staring at it won’t make it go away. However, with some fabric and a stretched
canvas frame and you can make yourself a decoration that will add color and
contrast to that wall.
All you have to do is pick a fabric design
that you want and but a stretched canvas frame from any DIY store. A staple gun
is also good to have. Once you have everything you can simply cut the fabric a
little bigger than the frame and staple it tight. There you have it; a simple
decorative piece that no one will know you made yourself unless you tell them.
In order to add depth you can hang a shelf
that can also act as a mantle. You can buy shelf kits from DIY stores or simply
make it yourself with a board, some sandpaper, paint and hammer and nails. Not
only will you have space to put your family pictures but it will make that wall
look longer.
When it comes to your hallways you can add
a mirror and be amazed at what something as simple as that can do. A mirror
reflects the patterns that it sees. Not only will it enhance the hallway it
will make it seem larger as well. Put a couple of well-placed mirrors on the
walls and you can use it to lighten up the hallway by reflecting light from a
window.
You can even decorate using lights. Create
colorful lampshades by painting them or covering them with fabric. They can add
a touch of color to your room. You can also add wall sconces that add both
light and decorative appeal.
Playing with paint may not seem like a
decorative thing to do but it works. Instead of using one color why not try and
paint with two. The two colors can contrast and enhance each other making the
room much livelier than before.
You can also create accents from everyday
things. See that plain storage box on your desk? Why not cover it up with art
paper so that it becomes a colorful addition to your home office.
You
can also bring that plant box from the outside indoors. Paint it with the color
you want to match the room you will be putting it in. You can put it on the
floor beside the coffee table so there’s a place to put magazines and stuff
without cluttering the table top.
