Design For Your Home Kitchen

For many the kitchen is the heart of the home. This is where families gather to cook the meal that will sustain them for the day. It is the first place people go to find solace when they feel down. It is where most of the socializing begins and where most end. For all intents and purposes the kitchen is as important as the bedroom or even more so.

That’s why it’s no surprise that homeowners spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars renovating their kitchens to their liking. You are probably thinking of doing the same thing. Personalizing your kitchen to suit your needs is one thing. However, you should not forget to incorporate basic kitchen design conventions that make the kitchen the heart of the home.

One of the first things you want to consider as part of your kitchen design is the ‘golden triangle.’ This is the supposed triangle formed between your refrigerator, sink and cooking top. The typical rule is that each of these objects has to be no more than meters apart.

The reason is simple. These are the three most used objects in the kitchen. Therefore, it stands to reason that they should be close to one another in order to make the kitchen more efficient. If not, you will be losing valuable time trying to get from one to the other.

It won’t help your efficiency if you don’t have enough lighting in the kitchen. Let’s face it; a kitchen with not enough lights is a useless kitchen. Sure, you may create an ambiance with minimal lights but it surely won’t be comfortable working in there if you have to squint in order to see something.

It’s good if you’re there during the day and you have a lot of windows to let in the light. Unfortunately, not all kitchens have that luxury. This means that for those scenarios having ample lighting is a must. Don’t forget to put enough lights to make things nice and bright.

While you’re planning for the lights don’t forget to plan for the storage spaces. The kitchen being a kitchen you are sure to have a lot of stuff for it. There are the objects for dining such as plates and the accompanying silverware.

There are the utensils used for cooking. These include knives, spatulas and the pots and pans that all kitchens should have. There are also the devices that make cooking easier such as the blenders and the choppers. All of these things need space for storage. Keep this in mind when planning.

You will also need to consider ventilation. When you’re cooking there will be a lot of smells and possibly smoke coming from whatever it is you’re cooking. If you don’t have good ventilation guess where those smell and smoke will go?

That’s right; they will go out to the rest of your home. That’s why you want to make sure the smells and stuff have a clear path for them to take so that they don’t mess up the wonder that is your home.
