How To Choose That Bathroom Tile

The bathroom – It’s probably the last room you will go into before you go to bed at night. It’s also the first room you will go into when you wake up. And if you’re like some others you will probably visit that room once or twice at night and a couple more times during the day.

The bathroom in your home may be small and insignificant when compared to the rest of the house. However, it is an integral part of the room. Many a time is spent there grooming and priming oneself in order to face the day or go out on a date.

Many have found solace in there when they feel down. It is also a place where we wash away the day’s work and grime. And some have even gotten intimate with the toilet bowl for reasons better left unsaid.

That’s why it only makes sense to give the bathroom its due. A way for you to go about it is to give it the tiles that it needs in order for it to serve you that much better. Tiles go really well in bathrooms. Not only does it give the bathroom a nice look, it also makes it easier to clean and longer lasting as well.

Choosing the right kind of tiles can be confusing since there are a number of different types and designs to choose from. It is important that you get the one the will really fit the overall look you’re going for without sacrificing strength and durability.

One of the things you want to really make clear is that there are two types of tiles. There’s the wall tile and the floor tile. While they may look the same there is a big difference. Wall tiles are usually thinner than floor tiles.

Thus, they don’t have the strength and durability to last long under the normal wear and tear that floor tiles undergo on a daily basis. While you can use floor tiles on walls if you want too, you shouldn’t use wall tiles on floors – unless you plan on replacing those tiles on a regular basis.

Tiles vary as to the material they are made from. You can choose between ceramic, glass or porcelain. You can even get naturally porous stone tiles such as marble or limestone. The latter needs more water protection than the former.

Both porcelain and ceramic tiles are the common material of choice for a lot of bathrooms. They are relatively cheap and are light yet very durable, especially porcelain ones. Because they are non-porous they don’t let water through very easily thereby requiring less water protection. They are also easier to clean.

Stone tiles are more natural. They are because they are hewn from natural stone such as marble, limestone or other such material. They are usually very heavy and large so your floor has to be able to take the weight. Because they are typically porous they need to be protected and sealed on a regular basis.

Choosing the tile size that will fit your bathroom is up to you. You do want to take into consideration the size of the room and the effect you want to get. Depending on the size, some tiles can make your bathroom look bigger while some can make it look smaller.
